No Laughing Matter
Drs Neal Barry and Nicole Barry
Earlier this week, Merck and Schering Plough released information regarding two of their biggest sellers, Vytorin and Zetia , respectively, and the significant risk factors that taking these medications poses.
These two medications are prescribed in an attempt to reduce cholesterol. While the studies did reveal that the LDL, or ‘bad’ cholesterol, did drop, the formation of plaque in the arteries actually occurred more quickly. Plaque breaking loose and causing a clot is the major concern with increased levels of cholesterol in the first place. It definitively showed that just lowering the numbers isn’t the end of the story. The body is a complex machine and when we start attempting to trick it with a number of medications, there will be a backlash.
The most infuriating piece of information to be released is that these two companies have been sitting on this information for nearly two years!!
If you or someone that you know is taking one of these drugs, contact your medical professional immediately and fully discuss your options.
