How does Chiropractic work?
Chiropractic works because your body, along with its nervous system, is a self-regulating, self-healing entity.  When you get a cut on your hand, your body inherently knows what to do to heal.  When there is interference on that nervous system, the body’s ability to stay healthy is compromised.  That is where chiropractic comes into play.

What does Chiropractic treat?
The condition that all chiropractors treat is: Subluxation.  Subluxation is when a joint becomes misaligned, compressed, stretched, or fixated and impairs the nerves ability to communicate cleanly with the brain.  Sometimes this will cause pain, but other times it will not.  Long standing subluxations speed up degenerative processes and lead to conditions like: migraines, neck pain, arm/hand tingling, carpal tunnel syndrome, low back pain, degenerative discs and/or joints, arthritis, knee pain, plantarfascitis, etc.

What does the Nervous System do?
The brain is continuous with the spinal cord, which lets off branches in-between each vertebrae to go to every cell, organ, and tissue in the body.  It is the mother-board of your body.  When nerves become impaired in their ability to properly communicate with the brain, sickness, disease, and dis-ease can occur.
Health is ‘normal’ with a properly functioning nervous system.

I can ‘pop’ my own back, why would I need to see a chiropractor?
Individuals that ‘pop’ their own spines, or extremities, are doing so because they have chiropractic subluxations and can feel the discomfort.  Often times ‘self-popping’ leads to further damage by mobilizing an area with weakened muscles and ligaments.  The chiropractic adjustment is specific…’self-popping’ is not.  Even chiropractors need to be adjusted.

Why don’t MDs and DCs get along?
Long, old-standing bias’ stand in the way of some ‘old-school’ MDs as well as ‘old-school’ DCs from working together.  Years of prejudice are giving way to research that is proving what chiropractic patients have known for over 100 years.  We work very well with a number of MDs in the area and communicate very well together.  We feel that it is important to keep your family doctor abreast of you treatment, and progress, because that will ultimately help YOU…and that it always our primary goal.

I’ve heard that once you see a chiropractor, you have to go forever?
We hear this one a lot.  In our office, we will set you up with a course of corrective care, specific to your health concerns/diagnosis, which certainly has a beginning and an end.  Many of our patient’s understand the importance of maintenance care (think about your car, your house, the Golden Gate Bridge) and decide to continue care to remain healthy.  We are always available to answer any questions regarding care recommendations.

Will it hurt?
This is a common concern as well.  Chiropractic adjustments should NOT hurt.  When done properly, a minimal amount of force needs to be applied to get the job done.  Drs. Neal & Nicole are trained in a number of different techniques and utilize the latest technology available in the profession in order to serve our practice members as completely as possible.

I think that I’m too old to be adjusted (or my child is too young), what age people are treated in your clinic?
Our ‘most-mature’ patient’s are in their 90’s…and our youngest patient’s are often only a few days old.  The treatments that they receive will love very different than that of an 18 year old football or volleyball player, or professional golfer.  Again, Drs. Neal & Nicole have been trained in a number of chiropractic techniques and each person’s care is individual to his or her needs.

Do I have to get X-rays?
We do not mandate x-rays on everyone.  During the initial exam, if factors come up that the doctors feel need further imaging, they will send you to a local radiology clinic. Every person is considered on an individual basis.  Our imaging studies are also read by an outside radiologist to ensure the highest degree of professionalism and to ensure that nothing is missed.

What if my insurance doesn’t cover chiropractic care?
Your health affects everything you do (or don’t do) and everyone you know.  There is nothing more important than our health.  It is certainly convenient when a third party will pay our medical bills.  That is a rarity in today’s health insurance market.  We all need to be careful to not allow the profit motive of large insurance carriers to dictate what care we do and don’t receive.
We do accept a number of insurance plans, and always work with our patient’s financial concerns to ensure that care is affordable to everyone in the family.  Financing is available
.
